Well, here’s a quick summary of this guide if you’re short on time!

I think it’s best that when it comes to deciding on a place to stay is to first choose the neighborhood, then move on to finding a great hotel, hostel, or apartment in that area.

The beauty of Naples, like most big cities, is that each neighborhood has a unique personality. The best neighborhood in Naples for you totally depends on what you’re looking for.

The downside of that is that it can be confusing when it comes time to decide on where to stay.

With so many great neighborhood options, each with their own quirks and unique charm, which area should you choose?

It seems impossible to do, but I’ve narrowed down the list of the best places to stay in Naples to just four neighborhoods.

• If it’s your first time in Naples, you can’t go wrong with Centro Storico since it’s literally the heart of Naples. Terrazza Duomo has air conditioning (a huge plus for me) and is only a 6-minute walk from Sansevero Chapel Museum. If you’re looking for space with a kitchen, then book at room at the Italia Apartment.
• Chiaia is a more polished area full of character with narrow streets. The B&B Orsini is just a block from the waterfront and Lungomare promenade. The win is the fantastic views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius!
• Vomero is as a suburban area that offers a different experience. It’s a quieter, cleaner part of Naples, ideal for those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. Choose to stay at a loft suspended over the city for the best view of Naples.
• Posillipo is renowned for its stunning vistas of the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, and the islands of Capri and Ischia. Staying at Il Richiamo Del Mare gives you stunning sea views from your balcony!

1. Historic Center (Centro Storico)

If you’re looking to make the most of your time in Naples, staying in a more central location can be a game changer. Being closer to the city’s main attractions means you’ll spend less time commuting and more time exploring.

The Historic Center, or Centro Storico, is the heart of Naples, with over 2,500 years of history.

The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and simply walking through its narrow, winding streets feels like stepping back in time. You’ll be stumbling across Roman ruins to medieval structures and baroque palazzos.

During my last trip to Naples, I stayed in this area, and it provided a fantastic base for exploring the city without the need for long commutes.

The Benefits of Staying Central

Staying in Centro Storico best for first-time visitors because it gives you easy access to public transportation, making it convenient to explore other parts of Naples and beyond.

You’re not far from the main train station, Stazione Centrale, which is ideal for day trips to nearby destinations like Pompeii, Sorrento, or the Amalfi Coast.

If you’re planning day trips outside the city, a central location will also save you much needed time so you can enjoy your vacation.

Centro Storico Key Attractions

Staying in the Centro Storico places you within walking distance of many of Naples’ top attractions.

You’ll be surrounded by some of the city’s most significant historical and cultural landmarks, including the stunning Duomo di Napoli, the ancient streets of via Spaccanapoli and you’re adjacent to the Quartieri Spagnoli (Spanish Quarter) with via Toledo.

You can easily explore the Naples National Archaeological Museum, home to one of the world’s most important collections of Greco-Roman antiquities, or visit the historic Sansevero Chapel, famous for the Veiled Christ sculpture.

The Castel Nuovo, the Royal Palace, and the Piazza del Plebiscito are also just a short walk away, making it easy to maximize your time exploring the city’s highlights.

You’ll also be surrounded by legendary pizzerias like Sorbillo and Di Matteo, where you can savor the world-famous Neapolitan pizza in its birthplace.

Italia Apartment features air conditioning, elevator access, a shared lounge and kitchen, and also comes with free Wifi.

It’s 13-minute walk from Sansevero Chapel Museum and a 9-minute walk from San Gregorio Armeno. It’s also located close to Chiesa dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo, National Archeological Museum, and Catacombs of Saint Gaudioso.

Terrazza Duomo ⭐ 9.5
