Lake Bled is one of the most picturesque and iconic destinations in Slovenia, known for its emerald-green waters, fairy-tale island, and medieval castle perched on a cliff.
If you only have one day to explore this magical place (like I did), don’t worry—you can still experience the best of it!
This guide will take you through a perfect one-day itinerary at Lake Bled, including must-see attractions, activities, and travel tips to make the most of your visit.

Morning: Exploring Lake Bled & Bled Island
7:30 AM – Arrive at Lake Bled & Enjoy the Scenic Views
Start your day early to enjoy the tranquility of the lake before the crowds arrive. The morning light over the Julian Alps creates a stunning reflection in the water—perfect for photography!

How to Get There:
- From Ljubljana: 45-minute drive or 1-hour bus ride
- From Bled Bus Station: A short walk to the lake

8:00 AM – Take a Traditional Pletna Boat to Bled Island
One of the top activities in Bled is visiting the island in the middle of the lake, home to the famous Church of the Assumption.
🚣 How to Get There:
- Take a Pletna boat – A traditional wooden boat rowed by a local boatman (€15 round trip, 20 minutes each way).
- Rent a kayak or paddleboard for a self-guided experience (€10-15 per hour).
🔔 Don’t Miss:
- Ring the wishing bell inside the church—it’s said to grant wishes!
- Climb the 99 stone steps leading up to the church (local tradition says grooms must carry their brides up the steps for good luck!).

9:30 AM – Walk or Cycle Around Lake Bled
Rent a bike or take a leisurely 6 km (3.7 miles) walk around the lake. It takes about 1.5 hours on foot and offers stunning viewpoints, hidden piers, and swimming spots.
