Hilton Boston Park Plaza Review

On a recent visit to Boston, I had the chance to stay at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza, and it truly impressed me as the perfect home base for exploring the city.

And while it is the perfect home base on my trip, here’s why it gets my vote as one of the okayish hotels in Boston.

About Hilton Boston Park Plaza

Built in 1927, this hotel beautifully blends historic charm with modern convenience, right in the heart of Back Bay.

Its location is prime, with Boston Common, Beacon Hill, and the Freedom Trail all within walking distance.

Hilton Boston Park Plaza Rooms

I stayed in the Wicked Queen Room. The room featured a cozy bed with duvet covers, an adjustable thermostat, and an LCD TV with premium channels (hello, HBO!).

The queen room is so small that I could hardly walk between the end of the bed and the tv/frame (yes, there is a 3-inch deep frame around the tv). Zack kept bumping into the frame during our stay.

We could hear everyone that walked by our door in the hallway – kids screaming, running, doors slamming, etc. We couldn’t hear our neighbors, but the hallway noise wasn’t pleasant.

The bathroom sink didn’t drain well. From the time I took brushing my teeth, the sink would be full for around 5 minutes after I finished. And the water pressure in the shower wasn’t strong, so it took a while to wash the soap out of my hair. There also wasn’t a vent in the bathroom, so the windows steamed up quickly.

Hilton Boston Park Plaza Rates

I stayed at the Hilton for 3 nights. While I knew the prices were steep when booking, but I wanted to stay near Boston Common. The rates changed every night plus there was a $35 destination charge each night. Then there were state and city taxes on both the room rate and destination charge.

  • Thursday: $349
  • Friday: $399
  • Saturday: $499

Overall, the entire cost of the hotel cost more than our hotel in Honolulu (and we’re staying 5 nights there instead of 3).

Hilton Boston Park Plaza Property and Amenities

It also has a 24-hour fitness center, which we did not use.

The hotel’s pet-friendly policy is a nice bonus for those bringing along their furry companions (even though we left Hank at Camp). There were several dogs in the hotel during our stay.

The Arlington T Station is just half a block away which makes exploring Boston’s top sights incredibly easy (which we found out a little later than we intended to).

Hilton Boston Park Plaza Lobby

The Hilton Boston Park Plaza lobby is elegant with its timeless design with polished marble floors, high ceilings, and seating areas.

It also features convenient amenities, including concierge services, a 24-hour front desk, a convenient store and direct access to the hotel’s on-site dining options.

Hilton Boston Park Plaza Restaurants

Off The Common

Located in the middle of the lobby, Off The Common is a contemporary restaurant offering a modern take on classic American cuisine. This is where the breakfast buffet is served.

We had drinks our first night at the bar here. Two drinks ended up costing us $70. Take my advice and walk down to a local liquor store to save yourself some money. We purchased a small bottle of Bullet Bourbon for $40.

Strega

Strega Italiano Back Bay offers Italian cuisine from land and sea, as well as homemade pastas and decadent desserts. If you can’t make it to the North End, this is your opportunity to have an Italian meal.

We didn’t eat here, but we stopped for drinks. I ordered an $18 Negroni which ended up tasting like orange juice (I could hardly taste any liquor).

Starbucks

The Starbucks is located right around the corner from the Off the Common restaurant. Since it’s inside the hotel, it’s very convenient to grab a regular coffee order after getting up than making coffee in our tiny hotel room.

Room Service

Room service is available, but we didn’t order anything during our stay.

MJ O’Connors

We had dinner one night here. Our meals were good.

Hilton Boston Park Plaza Parking

The Hilton Boston Park Plaza offers parking options for guests, although the hotel does not offer self-parking directly on-site. Parking a block or two away would’ve cost us $40/night.

The hotel provides valet parking for guests who prefer the ease of having their vehicle parked for them. Valet parking services are available for an additional fee ($68/night when we looked into it), and guests can access their cars as needed during their stay.

Unfortunately, the hotel does not offer self-parking directly on-site, but there are nearby parking garages within walking distance of the hotel if guests prefer to park themselves.

It’s recommended to inquire about the current parking rates and availability when booking or checking in, as parking in downtown Boston can vary in price depending on the time of year and events in the area.

Hilton Boston Park Plaza Check Out Policy

The Hilton Boston Park Plaza typically has a check-out time of 11:00 AM. Guests are encouraged to confirm this upon arrival, as policies may vary depending on the season or specific bookings.

If you need a late check-out, it’s best to request this at the front desk during your stay. Late check-outs are subject to availability and may come with an additional fee. If a late check-out isn’t possible, the hotel can often store your luggage for you after you’ve checked out, allowing you to explore Boston until your departure.

What’s near Hilton Boston Park Plaza?

Boston Common: Just a short walk from the hotel, this is the oldest public park in the U.S. and a great spot to relax or start your journey along the Freedom Trail.

Newbury Street: Famous for its boutique shopping, cafes, and restaurants, Newbury Street is within walking distance, perfect for a leisurely afternoon.

Beacon Hill: A picturesque historic neighborhood known for its cobblestone streets and Federal-style rowhouses, it’s easily accessible from the hotel.

Wrapping Up

At the end of the day, our stay was just okay. Zack and I both had a place to rest after we explored Salem, Boston, Cambridge, and Charlestown.

What do you think about the Hilton Boston Park Plaza? Have you stayed there before? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
