Why I Won’t Use Omio Again for Train Travel in Europe

We booked our train trip from Paris to Nuremberg using Omio, thinking it would be a convenient all-in-one platform for European rail tickets.

Emails from Omio
The itinerary looked great on paper: just one transfer and we’d be on our way. Unfortunately, that’s not how things played out.
The second leg of our journey was cancelled—something totally out of our control. And it wasn’t even Omio reaching out about the cancellation – it was a direct email from DB Reisebegleitung – IN GERMAN! Haha, I had to put it into Google Translate to even understand it. They emailed on Feb 11 and Feb 18.

When we reached out to Omio for help or a refund, we quickly discovered their customer service was non-existent. No live support, no helpful contact options, and no resolution. Despite the cancelled train, Omio refused to refund the ticket or even offer credit. It was incredibly frustrating.
Plus, if we got on the first train we would’ve been stranded at the transfer location in Stuttgart…
This experience showed us the downside of using a third-party app like Omio. While it may seem convenient when you’re booking, if anything goes wrong, you’re left completely on your own. In the future, I’ll book directly through the train operators, where customer support is more accessible and policies are often clearer.
I immediately booked another trip directly with DB when I got the second email on Feb. 18 with a transfer in Frankfurt. At least we wouldn’t be stranded…
I disputed it on my credit card and they gave me a full refund…
Bottom line: Omio might work fine when everything goes smoothly, but if your plans change or problems come up? Don’t expect help. It’s just not worth the risk.
