If you’re looking for one of the most iconic and scenic experiences in New York City, walking from Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge into DUMBO and Williamsburg should be at the top of your list.
This route combines epic skyline views, deep historical roots, and a peek into Brooklyn’s trendy side—plus ice cream at the finish line. 🍦 Yes, please.

Start at the World Trade Center
Your adventure kicks off in Lower Manhattan, near the World Trade Center. Before heading to the bridge, take a moment to reflect at the 9/11 Memorial or grab a coffee nearby. Then it’s time to make your way onto one of the most famous structures in the world: the Brooklyn Bridge.

Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge: A Walk Through History
This 1.1-mile walk is more than just a scenic stroll—it’s a walk through New York’s past. As your guide shares the secrets of its 14-year construction, keep an eye out for the mysterious door built into one of the stone towers (yes, it exists!).

And PSA: leave the love locks at home. They’re not allowed here—they damage the bridge and get cut off regularly. Snap a selfie instead with those classic suspension cables in the background.

DUMBO & Brooklyn Heights: Where Art Meets History
Once you hit the other side, you’ll land in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass)—one of Brooklyn’s most stylish and creative neighborhoods.

Stroll the cobblestone streets lined with industrial-era warehouses turned design studios, bakeries, and boutiques. Your guide will point out the building where Walt Whitman once worked as a printer, and just a short walk away in Brooklyn Heights, you’ll find Plymouth Church—a historic site known for its ties to the Underground Railroad and powerful abolitionist Henry Ward Beecher.
Just nearby, Truman Capote lived and wrote Breakfast at Tiffany’s in a yellow brick mansion on Willow Street.

Views, Art, and Ice Cream
One of the best parts of this walk? The epic skyline views. Make your way to Pebble Beach or the Time Out Market rooftop for jaw-dropping panoramas of Manhattan, the bridges, and the river.
While you’re soaking it all in, stop at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory or OddFellows Ice Cream Co. on the waterfront. Because nothing goes better with skyline views than a cone in hand.

Optional Extension: Explore Williamsburg
If you’re not quite ready to call it a day, extend your walking tour into Williamsburg, one of Brooklyn’s most creative and food-obsessed neighborhoods. Think indie shops, murals galore, rooftop bars, and coffee that makes you consider moving there.

Final Thoughts
There’s something magical about this walk.
